The Lying Game theories

Spoiler alert! Consider yourself warned.

Buckle up, kids, it's gonna be a long post.

I'm a fan of PLL so it doesn't come by surprise that I'm a huge fan of The Lying Game as well. Unfortunately, ABC Family decided not to renew the show for another season due to high ratings of Twisted and The Fosters.

TLG had everything I want in a show: great (hot) actors, interesting plot, mystery, drama, witty one liners and amazing fashion. It's such a shame they cancelled it.

Since the series didn't follow Sara Shepard's book we can't know (and probably will never know) how the series was supposed to end. And, because I love theories, I have come up with several of my own.

But first, let's repeat all the questions that are left unanswered.

Who killed Derek? Who killed Theresa? Who pushed Alec? Is he dead? Who stole the necklace from Rebecca's drawer? Is it the same person who tried to frame Rebecca for Theresa's murder? What happened with Jordan and his brother? What happened to Annie Hobbs? Why is everyone who knows the secret of twins in danger? Why (when) did Thayer become muy loco? Did Ted and Kristin got back together? Did Sutton and Ethan got back together?

There are just so many questions and I'll try to answer some them. So these are my theories.

Remember in last episode when Rebecca told Alec that it's amazing how far people will go to protect the ones they love? We know that Alec was behind everything, so he was the one trying to protect someone and that someone is Derek's killer.

So that got me thinking, who did Alec love?

Obviously his daughter Mads, but I doubt she killed Derek. I mean the only motive she has is that he dumped her friend Char.

Another Alec's great love was his high school crush and best friend's (soon to be ex) wife Kristin. But she didn't know anything about the twins, the switch, Rebecca...she was absolutely clueless so I think it's safe to remove her from the suspects list.

That leaves me with one more suspect - Thayer. He didn't like Alec, but just a couple of episodes before the finale Alec told him that he loves him and that everything he did was for him. After that little tantrum Thayer threw in the finale I think he is definitely capable of murder. Don't forget, he didn't want Alec to get out of jail. That could also be because he was guilty and if they convict Alec for Derek's murder, the case would be closed and Thayer would be free.

He also knew that Derek is working for Alec and at the time Alec did seem like the bad guy, definitely not the guy who would be on the twins' side and who could be trusted. And Derek was dating Char and could get all the info on the twins' search for their real mother and what not. So Thayer killed him.

This is the best theory I could come up with.

Moving on to Theresa's murder.

Let's eliminate the suspects first.

We know Ted was with Theresa at the cemetery, but he said he didn't kill her. Okay, let's believe him.

Rebecca was with Ted, but he left later to leave the flowers at Derek's grave. Where was she? I don't think she killed anyone though, she's too obvious to be the killer. Plus, she's not really a killer material in my opinion. She's just good at planting evidence and framing others.

Emma was with Ethan. I can't remember where Laurel and Kristin were, but they really had no reason to kill Theresa. We also know Sutton didn't kill her because she called Theresa from the cabin a second before she ran out of the car chasing the potential killer (we later found out that was Ted).

Jordan could have done it. I can't remember where he left after the dinner, but it's possible Rebecca had told him to kill Theresa because she knows too much and she thought Ted was Derek's killer and she's protecting him.

Assuming that Thayer did kill Derek, Alec wanted to protect him. When Theresa got too close to finding out who Derek's killer is, Alec could have killed her. We know he didn't have an alibi - Mads said that he came back from the rehearsal dinner and then went out again. To kill Theresa? It's possible.

So I say that Theresa's killer is either Jordan or Alec. My money's on Alec.

Who pushed Alec though? Again, I don't think it was Rebecca. As I said before, she's too obvious.

Sutton, Ethan, Ted and Kristin didn't do it because they were all in the restaurant when Alec fell and Emma was with Thayer in his room. And it's also not Jordan because he got arrested.

That leaves us with Mads, Laurel and Dan.

It's possible, but not very likely, that Mads thought Alec called the police to get Jordan so she went to the roof and pushed him. But I repeat, this is highly unlikely, especially considering she was always, and most of the time the only one, on his side. And she's really tiny and probably not strong enough to push him so hard that he would fall.

Earlier that night, Laurel saw Alec with Kristin and she looked disgusted and a bit angry. Enough angry to (try to) kill him? But she's also not very strong and Alec is a big guy so...

Speaking of big guys, Dan is strong enough to push Alec. He had a motive - Alec was the one who told Theresa about the twins and that got her killed in the end. Not to mention he never really liked Alec anyway.

I think the person who stole the necklace from Theresa's drawer was someone from The Lying Gang. They were the only ones who knew about it since Jordan didn't tell that anyone else. Jordan and Mads didn't steal it because that person ran past them. Thayer was with Alec, Emma and Sutton with Ted and later Ted was with Alec and Sutton with Laurel. But I don't know where Emma went later or where Ethan was that whole time. So it was probably either Ethan or Emma (Thayer didn't know about the necklace.).

I don't know if Ted and Kristin worked things out, but I'm guessing that somewhere in the future writers of the show had that in plan. I also don't know how things could have went on with Emma/Ethan/Sutton triangle. And I don't know why Jordan killed his brother. As for Annie, she went back to that clinic in LA and was no longer important for the story.

Or was she?

Alec told Theresa that everyone who knows the secret about twins is in danger. At the time, only Ted, Kristin and Dan didn't know. Considering that none of the people who knew about the twins probably wouldn't kill to keep it a secret (and really, what reason do they have?), that means there was someone else out there and it's possible that that person is Derek's or Theresa's or Alec's killer.

That's it. That's all I have. If you have any theories or questions, you can email them to me, ask me on Ask.fm or Tumblr.
